Story Spotlight: Monster Shark

I’ve noticed that “Monster Shark” has become one of my bestsellers lately, so I thought it would be good to blog about the story on the newly revised site.

MS is an Umira the Accursed short story, the first one I’ve written, though — perhaps ironically — not the first one I planned or did a cover for.  Umira originally appeared in Tournament of Death, the free online novel.  She’s an accursed triton starwatcher, which means that she can live on land and she’s a lot freakier looking than your average mermaid.  After creating her, I became intrigued by her … er … fish-out-of-water character.  Thus, MS and the other stories I’ve planned for her, as well as a couple of pretty cool free wallpapers.

With MS selling briskly, perhaps I should move her other stories up on my schedule.  Or perhaps, if you’re reading this, you can leave a comment and tell me what you think of the story.  If you’re commenting, though, please be specific enough that I won’t think you’re spam.  (You’d be surprised how many messages of vague praise I discard every month because the spam-guard tells me to.)

And if you haven’t read “Monster Shark,” what are you waiting for?  You can find it here for Kindle and here for all e-reader formats (including Kindle).  You could even sign up here to get my free newsletter and find out when the next Umira story (or the next monster shark story) arrives.

In any case, I hope you enjoy MS, TOD, and the stories to come!

The Accursed Triton named Umira in a tough spot.

I’m curious to know if there is a limited physical book of “Monster Shark”?, and if not, whether you are planning to release one, because I’d be knocking down the door to get a copy.

It’s only in e-book form currently, though there should be some form you could read on whatever you’re using. PDF usually works, and there’s a Kindle reader for just about anything. The story itself isn’t long enough to support a print book. I do have a sequel planned, though I’m not quite sure when I’ll have time for it. And there’s always a chance I’ll collect my Blue Kingdoms stories into one omnibus. (If only I had an assistant, I’d get a lot of this kind of thing done.)

Thanks so much for your interest, and keep watching this space (and my pages in general)!

Hi Steve! I just started reading Monster Shark (bought the Kindle on Amazon about a month ago) and plan to review it on once I’ve finished. This has been one of the highest on my list to read since I first came across it while looking for Megalodon ficition more than a yr ago. Looks to be a winner!

Thanks for the kind words and the great review!

At the moment, “Monster Shark” isn’t available in print form. However, I may gang it up with another story (or a few more) and put it into an anthology in the future. Keep your eyes peeled, and I’ll keep posting.
